about
Karen Plummer studied art with William Bailey (oil painter) and Marvin Lowe (intaglio printer) at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She continued her art education with Jack Tworkov and Chuck Close at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
After graduating from Indiana University, she toured France, Italy and Greece. It was in Italy and Greece that she began to paint “light” and explore how light defines space and objects.
In 1991 she enrolled in a water color class exploring her thoughts on paper using this difficult and rewarding medium. About 2002, Ms. Plummer began applying the watercolor techniques to “painting on silk.”
Plummer’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Indianapolis Museum of Art and private collections in the United States and England.
“People ask me why I make art,” said Karen. “It is not easy to answer this question.”
“I have been creating things for as long as I can remember. It always surprises me when other people like my art creations and want to look at the images. I finally found a few words to describe why I create visual images.”
“Color, shapes and subject matter are only tools to allow me to say things I can’t put in words.”
